  • Coriandrum sativum is an annual herb that has a flat, parsley-like leaf and round herb seeds. Cilantro is the leaf with an unmistakable scent and taste that is a staple ingredient in salsa and other Mexican dishes.
  • Cilantro is a 1 - 2 foot annual grown in USDA zones 3 - 9 and used for cooking.
  • This variety, Santo, is a slow and steady grower allowing a long harvest of fresh leaves. Coriander is the round seeds that are formed on the flower clusters that have been allowed to dry and go to seed. Coriander can be used either ground or whole, and it is used in many baked goods.
  • Start Cilantro directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Press the seed into the soil, cover with ¼ inch of soil and keep it moist. With a temperature of 66 - 75F, germination is usually in 14 days.
  • Sowing Rate: 1 seed per inch. Cilantro prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Measure rows of seed 15 inches apart and thin seedlings to 8 – 12 inches when they are 2 inches tall.
